As with bridges and dental implants, dentures are used to replace missing teeth. They were commonly called ‘false teeth’ – which is effectively what they are – but are nowadays referred to more correctly as dentures. Unlike a bridge or implants, dentures are removable.

There are two types of dentures. Full (or complete) dentures for when all teeth are missing and partial dentures when you still have some natural teeth.

Dentures may comprise metal or acrylic false teeth. The former are generally stronger and longer lasting while the latter have the advantage of being tooth coloured.

Both full and partial dentures are specially made in a dental laboratory so at the first visit we will take impressions and prepare your mouth for the denture. If teeth have been removed, gum tissue needs to heal so it may be several weeks before the denture can be worn.

We always check that the denture fits correctly and is comfortable. We also give you advice on caring for your denture.
